Delegation

Every leader in an organization must make decisions on what level of initiative their employees are going to be given. What do I mean?

1) Should each employee just wait to be told what to do by the Supervisor?

2) Can the employee act on their own without consulting the Supervisor?

Scenario 1 represents the lowest level of initiative and often leads to being saddled with the dreaded label “micromanager”, while Scenario 2 represents absolute trust but also exposes the supervisor to significant risk. Most times, the level of initiative afforded an employee by a Supervisor falls somewhere in between.
